Upgrade from 5.5 asp.net to 7.0?

Post by sunderberger » Fri Jul 18, 2008 10:13 am

Hey, has anybody done an upgrade from AC 5.5 asp.net to 7.0?

If so, what was that experience like? Was it an easy upgrade? Or do you need to basically rebuild your store in 7.0?

I haven't been able to find any instructions or information on the AC website about this.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

First You have to setup a new AC7.0 store and then you can import your ac5x store using DataPort utility.

You can read about the DataPort utility from
http://wiki.ablecommerce.com/index.php/ ... rt_Utility
Also read about AC7.0 from http://help.ablecommerce.com/

The one I upgraded went very smoothly after I got the export from 5.5 to quit timing out. Some of the categories (a client had this trouble on a test upgrade also) got put in the menu wrong, but I just moved them around. To me, that was minor compared to the headache the upgrade could have been. At the time I did mine, the dataport didn't do kits- I haven't checked to see if it does them yet. Over all, I was very pleased.

I appreciate the information.

Our current 5.5 asp.net has quite a bit of custom programming (done by an outsourced company) - So, I am thinking that any custom programming previously done would need to be rewritten for 7.0.

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Yes if you want to have that old custom work in AC7 then you have to port it to AC7
