Multiple storefronts

Post by gtrott » Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:07 pm

Hello

Seeking assistance here, if possible.

I am strongly considering aAblecommerce to run my web stores.

However, I wondered whether the software is capable of running multiple storefronts within the one domain.

That is, I plan to have a main store, and then from that one or two more.

Each new store would need to have a different look, a different 'front page' so as to speak, but all would share the same db, inventory and other systems.

Is this possible within the Ablecommerce system?

Thanks in advance for any assistance possible.

regards

Gavin Trott

This is possible using different themes for each store and customizing menus if they do not need to show different subdomains in the URL. They would narrow down to one checkout, though. See
http://www.directpaintball.com. Most of the products are live, but if you click Paintball Museum in the left nav, you go to a set of products that are out of production and it has a different theme.

Yes, very annoying that it redirects to a specific sub-domain rather just making sure it is within a specific domain for licensing. It would be nice if we could have sub-domains for different sections or categories of the same store. We already paid for the license and the source code which isn't complete, so I don't see the point in annoying me further.

Speaking of which I have another issue related to this.

Our license is locked to http://store.domain.com which is perfectly fine for the regular store.

This is load balanced between two servers which also works fine.

The problem is when you access the admin in load balancing, you cannot access files located locally to a particular server like for example we have some data exports for our accounting system. I would like to be able to have the admin portion of the site not be load balanced and only access one server. I see no reason this part of the store has to be locked to a specific sub-domain like the public portion of the store. Does anyone know if there is a way around this aside from putting the store in demo mode or installing a separate instance just to run the admin?
