On "my alerts":

Your store encryption key is missing or invalid, and you have not disabled storage of card data. You should either set the encryption key or disable credit card storage.

I'm currently using a free ssl for testing. Is that what's causing it?

If you don't want to save the Credit Card data then Navigate to the Configure->Security->General and uncheck Enable Credit Card Storage: option and the alert will disappear, but if you want to store the Credit Card data then navigate to the Configure > Security > Encryption Key and update your encryption key

I want to save the Credit Card data.

Also, if you are on a shared server, make sure you download SP1 for your Able build 9879. It fixes the problem where you couldn't generate an encryption key.

I added the key, . . but now I get the error:

Error decrypting data Invalid character in a Base-64 string.

in the Error log.

There are over 50 pages of this same message.
I also get an error when added certain products to cart:

I got some of those errors when I first did it on Aug 9, but haven't had any since then and my data is being encrypted. I just assumed it was some kind of hiccup that straightened itself out.
