permissions issue with admin dashboard graphs

Post by heinscott » Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:18 pm

I've just recieved a wierd error when trying to log on to my admin section (just starting happening randomly). Apparently, there is some kind of problem with loading one of the report images. I've include the error screen here:
error.jpg
(147.9 KiB) Downloaded 4053 times
Does anyone have any idea why this might be occurring?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

This happens on godaddy and other shared websites from time to time where permissions are set at the file level rather than a directory level. The images on the admin side a generated and the names change. The error message is self explanatory in regards to the actual issue it seems.
Thanks for your support

This only started happening recently... Everything did work for a while. The last thing I remebered doing before this happended, was adding a new Administrative user... although, I can't imagine why that would have anything to do with it. This is a VPS server, too, and I gave full write/read access to the directory. Any other ideas for me??

Did you make sure your permissions propagated down? I missed that setting once on a server where I had to change permissions someone else had set.

I've had it happen almost exclusively after I did an upgrade to the site or move the site to a different server/folder. Has to do with permissions not being inherited from the parent folder. It's a server thing.

Just delete all the files in the ~/Webcharts folder and fire up the admin. All the charts are automatically recreated/refreshed using the correct permissions.

If you're uploading your site from a local copy, this would easily cause the problem as the permissions assigned during an FTP upload could conceivably be different than what is required by the IIS server processes. The trick is to not upload that particular folder or its contents when uploading your site.

Thanks Judy and Joe! It did end up being a problem with a much of changes being uploaded all at once. I deleted the files, and everything started working again.
As always, the help is much appreciated.

I'm having the exact same issue. I deleted everything in the webcharts folder, per the instructions above. It did stop the error from showing up; however, now I have no reports/charts at all. I expected AbleCommerce to simply regenerate the files, but I've visited several pages in the admin console (clicking the refresh button below the reports too) with no luck so far. Is there something more that needs to be done to get the actual reports to be regenerated, or does AbleCommerce not actually have the ability to recreate the needed images?

Did anyone ever figure out how to get the reports to regenerate? Definitely happy to have the error message stop showing up but it would be great for the reports to regenerate as well.

Deleting the files in the /webcharts/ folders will force the reports to regenerate.

Deleting the files in the /webcharts/ folders SHOULD force them to regenerate but they aren't. It just shows up with a broken image link now.

Ok. Then you still have a permissions issue that is preventing the new files from being generated.
