The last time I used PayPal for an ecommerce application, the user would
click the link and be redirected to PayPal to make the payment.
Now, I noticed that some websites have a PayPal link as an option right
in the Shopping Cart: You don't need to first enter your Name and Address,
you are immediately sent to PayPal.
How do I setup PayPal now? What is the best way?
1. Does the customer first need to enter Billing/Shipping info and then be
redirected to PayPal?
2. Can the customer just be sent to PayPal without Billing/Shipping info?
And if so, how is that information obtained later for the order in the Admin?
I see the options:
Instant Payment Notification (IPN) ??
Express Checkout and Direct Payment ??
API Username:
Can anyone explain this in simple terms and recommend the best paypal setup? thanks

Re: PayPal question
Paypal express checkout is what shows on the basket page and the customer is directed to Paypal to finish the checkout without filling in the address info. I'm not sure that is available if you are on a shared hoster.
There are a couple of shortcomings with it that I didn't like in the past.
Customer sees the link on the basket and possibly thinks that is the only payment method available.
Customer has to use the address that is stored in Paypal.
Those might not be an issue for you.

Re: PayPal question
Thanks Judy, .. good points.
I guess the best way is to have PayPal listed as a payment option
on the final checkout screen.
Should I use "Instant Payment Notification (IPN)"?

Re: PayPal question
Hi,
I have carefully read the instructions and configured our paypal account AND the AC7 paypal gateway with everything required, yet I can't work out how to make the paypal EXPRESS button show up (whether in the basket OR checkout page).
I want users to be able to pay by paypal express on the 'one page checkout' screen.
How can I manually set this? It always shows the paypal website payments standard button?
Is there an option / technique to force the paypal gateway to use paypal express?
Thanks, Mark
