Handling product returns

Post by AbleMods » Thu Aug 21, 2008 11:06 pm

Anyone have any interest in a full RMA add-on to AC7?

I'm considering developing one but only if the interest warrants the effort involved. It would be a complete system. Customers request an RMA on the store side. Admins can issue RMAs, fire email templates with return instructions and properly manage return-for-exchange, return-for-refund and return-for-credit scenarios.

It'll be a big project, which I enjoy. I just don't want to invest 6 weeks of effort and be the only one using it :)

I would be interested in this functionality for a future AC 7 install.

I hope you move forward with this project.

Hi Joe,
Yes we would be interested also as we anticipate a big Christmas return process. Will this be able to let us send preprinted UPS Return Labels or maybe Endicia Mail Labels ? by email. What about filling out the form on-line? LLBean has a good system I think. Check it out.

Thanks Don, I'll check out the LLBean system and get some more ideas.

I do not have any knowledge of how to integrate with UPS, so that part would not be possible in the first version. Certainly would be possible down-the-road though.

Sounds good. Happy Labor Day - we are both Laboring today it looks like.

I think we could cut and paste UPS label into an email -we do that now. I was just mentioning that I see a lot of companies provide this service and charge a nominal handling fee ( about $5 ) which is less than true UPS cost - but that way you can retain control and only take back returns that are within the 30 day window. Plus the return is insured for up to $100.

llbean looks pretty good ... I just suggest looking at it for ideas.

Is the label static other than the customer address?

Any updates on this? I found it odd AC7 doesn't have any RMA integration

My RMA project is scheduled to begin development next week with a beta release expected near the middle of November. Might be sooner, all depends on other tasks slowing me down. No idea on cost yet but it won't be huge, probably close to my QuickBooks module pricing I'd guess. Most people buying a $ 1,000 storefront product don't want to spend $ 2,500 more to handle product returns :)

I'm sure Able will be adding more "customer service" oriented features as AC7 continues to mature. Version 7 is pretty new and quite a leap from anything before it, so Able has been focused on a stable code release, good user documentation and as many features as those weary developers could crank out in the timeframe alotted.
