Has anyone thought about integrating google search in the store, or would this even be possible?

Hello,
So long as your stores indexed in google, you could use the google search. If you have a lot of extra content outside of the store, it might be a good way to go.

If you do not have many of your documents indexed in Google, you could go with a Google Mini server:
http://www.google.com/enterprise/mini/
We are actually looking at integrating this into Able Commerce 7. More so, the approach for us is to index purchasable PDF's behind a secured location which when selected via a search result, it will redirect to the purchase page. Another customization we will be working on is to have a search results page allow for drop down product attributes, add to cart options, up sell features, and further refined search result options.
While our approach is not to index other resource pages on the website, you would have that flexibility with the Google Mini search appliance. In addition you can customize the Google Mini to wrap your website design around the contents.
Of course the down side to all of this is that you would either need to own a Google Mini server, or pay a monthly service fee from a web host. Either way, it would be preferable to have your Google Mini in the same location as your web server, but that is not required.
