Product Configurator Function?

Post by MartinZ » Thu Sep 04, 2008 7:51 am

Does anyone know if a Product Configurator is available for AC7? I'm looking for a solution that would allow a customer to visit our site and configure an assembly part based on a selectable list of sub components. Basically they'll be able to pick a main part and all of the accessories they want included. Then we'll receive the order, put the whole thing together, and ship it off. Our developer is in the process of creating something like this, but I want to get some feedback from others who have done it or attempted to do this. Thanks for any recommendations!

That is basically what the kit function is.

Will the KIT feature allow us to set up a 5-tier selection menu where Level 1 defines what is available for Level 2, Level 2 defines what is available in Level 3, and so on, through Level 5? We want a system that allows the customer to pick a standard product, define the width, define the height, define the depth, and define a type of accessory to include. This configuration then generates a Part Number for that specific product that meets these requirements. We don't want to have every W-H-D variation of the product listed individually since that would be too numerous. We'll simply list our standard product and let the customer select the next levels of detail. i hope this makes sense.

I think this may be more complicated that what I currently see with the Kit configuration system. On the other hand, we are probably approaching the Configuration requirements from a different perspective. I'll work with the KIT system as it is to see if this can provide similar functionality.

No, the kit doesn't do that. The options and variants kind of do that, but they don't limit the second select box based on the first and when you set options as unavailable, you don't know until you try to put the product into the basket.
This has been asked about several times, and it would be a good feature for Able to have.

Hello,
The options and variants kind of do that, but they don't limit the second select box based on the first and when you set options as unavailable, you don't know until you try to put the product into the basket.
With inventory control it does just that. Based on what you select in the first box, the choices in the second box are adjusted.
Thanks for your support

OK, thank you Mike. I had tried it with just the not available, not with inventory control. That is really good news because there have been several on the forum asking for something that would do that and I know of one person who has been looking for it for about a year and then went with another solution.
