Visa (MC, Amex) Gift Cards

I have customers who are attempting to use Visa Gift Cards on my site, but they always fail due to insufficient funds because it tries to authorize against the order total instead of the set amount of the gift card.

Is there a way to turn on multiple payments for the customer or allow them to enter a certain amount that they wish to pay from multiple credit cards?

Adding that this is a pain for me as well. I have to set it up so the amount being charged is what the card has on it in order for them to use multiple gift cards.. It should be setup so the customer can say they are using a gift card and then assign the amount they want to charge to it.
