multiple discounts not being added to basket

We have a product that has multiple discounts. One for 5% and another for 15%. Only the 15% discount, which is the latest one added is showing up in the basket. How do we fix this? This is critical. Any help is appreciated.

If a product has multiple discounts then AbleCommerce picks the best one and I think it makes the sense.

Well, that sort of makes sense but what if you have a regular discount and also a discount that expires after such and such date?

When there are two or more discounts that are applicable to a product at the same time the discount that is higher will be taken into consideration.

More than one discounts can become applicable only if you define discounts as such. Why would you define a 5% discount and 15% discount to be applicable at the same time under the same conditions? Naturally the higher value discount should have some additional restrictions - like for example a certain time frame or certain quantity. Now within that time frame and/or quantity if someone purchases a product, why would you want to give him a 5% discount when he/she is eligible for 15% discount?

If the customer is not eligible the higher value discount would never show up ... you don't have to do anything to prevent it from being used..... But if the conditions of eligibility are met for a higher value discount it does not make sense to force a lower value discount.

The client was just wanting to add them both to the basket.

In that case, I think the client should define the new discount as a total of the two discounts. i.e; 15%.

Just browsing through this discussion and have a question regarding it...

We are wanting to have two types of discounts apply. The first is a quantity discount applicable to certain line items. The second is a volume discount that applies to entire orders over certain amounts. We want BOTH discounts to apply. After reading this thread, I am wondering if only one is going to apply?!?

I know that you can't apply multiple volume discounts to a product, unless they are mutually exclusive.

But is there a slight flaw in the logic here?
If you want one discount to apply to ordinary retail users, and another to apply only to trade, you need to create a global discount, and a User Group-specific discount.

But, given the need for ALL users to see the global discount (unregistered/those not logged in/logged in users), Trade users will see both the Global and Group-specific discounts in the product view. It's a bit messy.

And what if you want to target retail users only? Yes, you can create a RETAIL USERS User Group and apply a discount to them, but a user will only see this discount if they are registered and logged in. It's not a tool to encourage sales, in this instance.

Is this correct, or have I misunderstood something?
