If a customer places an item in their basket they are charged full price. If they log in while shopping or during checkout and they are a member of a group eligible for a lower price via a pricing rule, the price(s) for the item(s) in their basket ordered before they logged in are not adjusted. Ideally the price of all product in the customers basket would reflect the lower group price, after the log in.

Any suggestions for resolving this issue?

If you haven't customized anything, I think that would be a bug you should report.
