Order Status: Payment Pending or Shipment Pending

We just launched a new AbleCommerce site and have noticed something very strange.
When an order occurs the Order Status gets set to Shipment Pending from Payment Pending only sometimes.
We're using the Payflow Pro Payment Gateway and have the transaction mode set to "Authorize and Capture."
I have not been able to find a pattern as to why this is occurring but it is definitely a problem. Has anybody else seen issue? If so were you able to resolve it? If so, how?
