Optimal Resolution of images uploaded to ablecommerce site?
I understand that able commerce automatically resizes images I upload, such as product images to thumbnails etc. But what size resolution should the images be before I upload them? Because if I use the standard for online, at 72dpi, ablecommerce seems to automatically re-size the image even further, degrading the qaulity of the image too much! I am afraid to upload images of 300dpi, because they will take too long to upload when customers view the site. What resolution works best for images uploaded on ablecommerce sites?

Hello VetShop,
Still use 72 dpi. The key is to make sure the image is the largest size you want it before you let Able resize. If you take a small image and make it larger, it pixelates. If you size down, it's usually fine. So try it with a large image, for example if the largest you use is 500 x 500, start with that image at 72 dpi and try it. Please contact us if there is still an issue after you try this.
Thank you,

Re: Optimal Resolution of images uploaded to ablecommerce site?
Hello,
Yes I always upload images at 500 x 500, 72dpi, the largest size I should need for my site. However, when using these recommended guidelines, the image is automatically resized even smaller to become listed as a product in a category on my site, and the image quality then appears degraded. For example: http://www.vetshopaustralia.com.au/Grip ... 60C64.aspx Is there a way to prevent ablecommerce from automatically resizing images or affecting the quality of the image?

If you upload the image thru the edit product page, images section, there is a checkbox that says Resize Uploaded Image. You can also upload them via ftp and enter the image paths into the proper fields or select the store setting that uses sku for the image lookup and if they are named using the sku, they get hooked up automatically.
