Keyword Search

Post by Tomgard » Mon Oct 13, 2008 5:00 pm

I have around 50K items on my site. The keyword search takes anywhere from 18 to 22 seconds to return any results. Is this typical? Is there any way to speed this up? Hosting issue?

Let me just add to a finding on this issue. THe home page keyword search takes almost 20 seconds to run but when you use the Advanced Seach it responds in less than 5 seconds.

I find this disparity between the basic keyword search and the advanced keyword search on Bryan's site to be a "head-scratcher" too.

I haven't yet delved into the bowls of AC7 enough that I've explored why the two searc options would behave so differently, but I've verified that the DO perform very differently on his site (schoolsupplystore.com), and that we DO NOT see this on other AC7 sites that we have installed (we haven't worked with Bryan's site yet), nor others we have observed.

My first quess was that something was cusomized vis a vis the basid keyword search on his site, but he swears that to the best of his knowledge this is not the case.

Any other precident for this sort of behavior?

Don’t forget misspellings and alternate forms. Accounting for words that are commonly misspelled can increase the number of visitors to your site and cast your marketing net a little wider. An easy way to do this is to analyze your site’s internal search logs looking for misspelled searches, including the "not found" list. Misspellings can also be incorporated into the content of pages. Many searches often use a common misspelling. In some instances, a misspelled word may be more popular than the correctly spelled word.
