AC Benchmark tests

Post by freedom1029 » Tue Jun 02, 2009 3:14 pm

A nice feature would be some kind of benchmark tests that we could run on our site. This would allow us to pin point different problem such as why we get a slow page loads in the customer and admin section.

Have you looked at YSlow from Yahoo? It's not the same as benchmarking and won't help with page internals, but it does suggest some best practices for speeding up the delivery of web pages. Some of them aren't at all suitable for a dynamically generated website, but I think some are good to look at.

I think there are specialized tools for this purpose and they should be used. For AbleCommerce to include benchmarking tests would be to lose focus of their core area of competence. For speed tests you may consider YSlow or PageSpeed FireFox plugins. For online speed test you may also like to test your site with http://www.yottaa.com
