Please read this excellent article about password masking, i.e., it is now believed (and I have always thought this) that new accounts should not mask a password and not have a 2nd text box for confirm. This becomes even more apparent on mobile devices.

usability improvement suggestion
Re: usability improvement suggestion
Interesting article, but it is about 5 years old. My initial thought is that any site with passwords being shown as you type them may not be PCI compliant. In most cases, I doubt that anyone would be looking over your shoulder when you typed in a password, but there would be times that it may be a problem. Consider any public place...
As far as mobile devices, I think that some (most?) will show you the last character you typed as you enter a password. At least mine does that...
As always, it's great to hear feedback and please don't let my comments discourage you in any way. I have not researched all the PCI restrictions enough to know if a masked password is required, but for ecommerce, I would think that it would be likely.
Thanks!

Re: usability improvement suggestion
Another thing to think about is perception. It would be easier to just see what your typing in, but most people are conditioned to expect the bullets instead of text. So if you take that away before a big tech company endorses that method ( like google or amazon ), then you run the risk of customers being turned off from your site due to perceiving that it isn't secure.
