Request: bulk image import or auto-image assignment

After playing with the data import utility for products, I've noticed it doesn't do anything for me with regards to images.

It would be vastly helpful for one or more of the following:

1. Import utility auto-assign image file name based on user choice of import field like sku, ModelNumber etc. This should be for the largest image size only and it should automatically create the thumbnail and icon like image upload does now.

2. Give the Assets and Images upload feature a multi-select capability. I don't mind having to do images as a separate step after a bulk product import. Doing them one-at-a-time is a huge pain.

3. Create image construction option. Basically it scans a user-specified image folder for image file names based on user choice of sku, modelnumber etc. It would automatically make the three sizes of images and assign them to the associated product. Then I could just copy all my images into a folder and run one mass step.

Here here!!!! I have needed this type of option several times for clients that are moving from a current internal inventory system to the web. We upload the data, ftp up the images and then spend hours associating the images with the appropriate item. :!:

You have the ability to have the three sizes of images associate with the products based on the SKU if you check enable image lookup under Website-->Logos and Images and if you have named your images according to the rules. There are a couple of inconveniences with it- it doesn't work with anything buy jpg and you can't have your images in subcategories.

Yes,

Even if it would just check for additional images by a format such as "SKU-2.jpg, SKU-3.jpg, SKU-4.jpg", etc...

Yes, checking for additional images would be great. I've got a client who wants it now and I haven't come up with a way short of writing code to run thru the image folder and look for them and insert those links into the database.
