search on merchant side

Post by mkeith1 » Fri Apr 04, 2008 11:03 am

Version 5 has the ability in the admin search screen to find items by SKU, Name or name or description. Although it is a "find all words" type of search it offers the ability to search by these fields. I don't see that in version 7. using the Search.aspx page, I can do a search using a wild card search, meaning a word which is found in the "name" of a product, (and what does "search titles only" mean anyway?) If you have many products which share a common word, it's nice that it brings up an alphabetical listing, but I have to scroll through the many pages to locate the product. Adding a SKU field or Name field to this search would be REALLY helpful. Also, where it says Search Keyword, is the "Keyword" field included in the search, or is it really doing a search "Name"?

It would also be nice to have a category listing sometimes in addition to a search, like when you are doing cross sell setup.

I know, but then you have to remember the SKU. In Able 5.5, you could search, select a category, search within a category. That made it a lot easier to work with.

From what i can see, originally you can only search for sku on the customer side under an advanced search. There was a code modification done so that you could search for sku on the customer side using the simple search, but nothing has been done on the merchant side that i know of.

Not yet.

Our workaround is searching by SKU on the front in - going into the product - going to the bottom of the page and clicking edit product.

My staff is begging to search by SKU.

There is no way to alter the current merchant search so that it takes care of the Sku as we did with the store search.

I think this can be made less pain full by having some extra search page on the admin that can make use of the features from advance search. The only limitation with this approach would be that if some product is not public then it will not listed.

Guys here is the search by Sku page for admin. This page makes use of the similar code as on the store side. So the limitation with this search is that it will not list the products which are not public. Still i thought it might be help full for the people who are search by Sku on the store side and then from there returning back to the admin for editing product. You just need to place the page in the Admin/Catalog folder and then provide some link for this page where you want. Currently the page does not provide the options for deleting or changing the visibility for searched product, only product editing is available.

You can get the code from the attachment in next post.

I got the file uploaded, and the direct URL

works, but where do I put a link to the page?

You can put the link in the Admin Menu under catalog node. For this edit the Admin/menu.sitemap file and add the following line at the end of section section titled with title="Catalog"

Code: Select all

<siteMapNode title="Sku Search" url="~/Admin/Catalog/SkuSearch.aspx" />
This will made this new search available via admin menu.

Yes it could be done very easily. All you will need is a dropdown showing the list of manufacturers and then changing the ProductDs data source's manufacturerId parameter to be of type control and the adjusting the parameter control id to the newly created dropdown and PropertyName to the SelectedValue. You can copy paste the manufacturers dropdown list and its datasource code from ConLib/AdvanceSearchPage control.

How can I add this modification (Manufacturer field) to the "Add Product to Order" search on the /Admin/Orders/PlaceOrder1.aspx page?

That would be an easy job. Take the backup of your existing Admin/Orders/PlaceOrder1.aspx and then use the following version of the file.

Thanks you!

Is there away to have the "search by manufacturer" also work without having to enter a name in the "Find Product" box, currently unless I enter part of product name or sku no results are returned.

For this edit the Admin/Orders/PlaceOrder1.aspx.cs file and locate the following function

Code: Select all

protected void FindProductSearchButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(FindProductSearchText.Text))
        {
            if (FindProductSearchField.SelectedIndex == 0)
            {
                HiddenSku.Value = String.Empty;
                HiddenName.Value = FindProductSearchText.Text;
            }
            else
            {
                HiddenSku.Value = FindProductSearchText.Text;
                HiddenName.Value = String.Empty;
            }
            FindProductSearchResults.Visible = true;
            FindProductSearchResults.DataBind();
        }
    }
and make it look like

Code: Select all

protected void FindProductSearchButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {

            if (FindProductSearchField.SelectedIndex == 0)
            {
                HiddenSku.Value = String.Empty;
                HiddenName.Value = FindProductSearchText.Text;
            }
            else
            {
                HiddenSku.Value = FindProductSearchText.Text;
                HiddenName.Value = String.Empty;
            }
            FindProductSearchResults.Visible = true;
            FindProductSearchResults.DataBind();

    }
Save the file and that's all.
