Registration Email on Sign Up?

I may be blind but I do not see an option to send a user a registration email after signing up for an account. Is this not built into the system? Thanks.

I'm not sure it would be a useful feature, since you cannot email the password out. So it's not been added.

Well as far as it being a useful feature. Many stores, in fact I cannot name one that doesn't, email the user welcoming them to the store and thanking them for setting up an account. Some also offer incentive coupons in case the user did not purchase anything after registration. For my purposes, I need to send a link to all users registering to confirm whether they are a member of another site and place them in the appropriate store group accordingly. I'd like this email template to be controlled like the others. Where is the best place to start to build this feature out myself if its not going to be added?

I've seen a few non-able stores with this feature. It would be something I would use if it was there.
Not a 'must' have for myself, but again has it's uses.

We were also surprised when we found this was missing. So I will add my vote for this to be added in the future.
