Shorten cookie time??

Post by compunerdy » Wed Oct 08, 2008 11:21 am

I need to know how to shorten my cookies or something. I just had a customer order a part that is marked as disable purchase and has been hidden for months. The only thing I can think of is that it must have been sitting in their cart for a very long time.

Actually the customer just got back to me and said it was in his wishlist.

This is starting to really annoy me. I have had issues multiple times now with items in wishlists screwing up changed kits..overselling items..selling items that have been discontinued etc..

I reported this back in may and bug 6813 was created but nothing has been done with it.
I just created another one though.

Hello Tim,

http://bugs.ablecommerce.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6813

The above bug doesn't seem to have anything to do with the issue your having, it's requesting that new hidden items added to kits be added to existing basket/wishlists that already exist.

According to the notes in the bug, what you are reporting was tested to be working.
Setup a kit product with a couple hidden components. Add it to the basket or
wishlist.
Change the Kit product by adding new hidden components and removing a hidden
component.

Place the order with the original kit item. What happens is that the
components that were removed via admin, were also removed when the order is
placed (this is correct).
So I'm a bit confused.

Hello Tim,

I just tested this in my demo store, I first added the build your own computer system to the wishlist with the 250gb WD hard drive. I then deleted the 250gb hard drive from the kit, it was removed from the wishlist properly. I then repeated the test with the basket with the same results, when the item is removed from the kit it's remove from the basket.

Please let me know if you have any other information which might help replicate the issue.

Hello Tim,

Based on your AbleCRM post, I think I know what's up. Disabling, hiding or locking the product has no effect on the kit. It is quite normal for a kit to contain locked items, for example in our sample data you'll see that all of the items in the build your own computer are locked and not available for sale outside the kitted product.

When you want to remove an item from a kit you need to delete the item from the kit.

Ok..forget kits for a second..try this.

Add a Item to your wishlist.

Now go in and mark that item as "disable purchase" which states "it cannot be added to the basket".

Now go into your wishlist and add the item to your basket.

Thats a bug...

Hello,

No that's a display only feature which disable the add to basket button and the add to wishlist button, making it so it cannot be added to the basket and has NO effect on the product otherwise. You need to put the product into 'lock' mode to accomplish what you are wanting.

Well the description should be changed then as it states it will not show the buy button AND it cannot be added to the basket.

Besides why would you want to mark a item so it cannot be purchased except by people who have the item in their wishlist?? That doesnt make a lot of sense. Can you give me a real world example as to what the option is for then if not to make it so it cannot be purchased?

What is the "lock" feature you are referring to? Do you mean make the item "private" which then displays the little lock sysmbol?

Hello Tim,

It's for catalog only websites where the products cannot be purchased, we never designed it to be used the way you were thinking. It should say 'SO' instead of 'AND' in the description.

Yes, that is correct.

That works... 8)

I think the 6813 issue still needs to be fixed eventually though.

Hello Tim,

The issue is that we cannot 'add' items to the cart/wishlist without the customer adding them I would think. Not sure that would be ethical.

Maybe it needs to be changed so that if a kit has items added or removed then it is stripped from wishlists and shopping carts??

I dont know how to fix it but I can tell you it was a real problem when I made changes to my kits one time and then got 20+ orders that where missing a item. What I had done was replaced a key item with a new item. The old item was stripped off but the new item was not added causing the problem.

That might work. I'll move this to feature enhancements for future reference.
