Problem:
Frequently we get a number of customers that make multiple orders during the day. Reasons can vary on why they do this. Mostly it is because they forgot to add a product to their cart before checking out so they just go ahead and place another order. To streamline our order processing we combine the orders, ship in one box, and refund the difference which can be a time consuming process.
Possible Work-flow Solution
1) Ability to select which orders that are to be merged.
2) Check to see ship-to addresses are the same.
3) Setup a merge screen where we can edit quantities if needed, and provide a list of shipping methods which will recalculate based on weight. Once order is correct submit for new order number.
4) Re-calculate shipping and taxes if needed. Apply payments from previous orders.
5) Give the option of sending a revised order to the customer.
6) Add Note in the notes field indicating which orders were merged and by whom.
7) Cancel the previous orders with a user note indicated that this order has been merged with order number x.
8 ) Give the option of sending cancellation emails on the orders that have been canceled.
9) Give the option to process refund if needed
Note: I am sure there are other ways to do the work-flow, but this will give you a good idea on what I am trying to achieve with this feature request.
