Paypal as gateway in Canada

We're trying to set up Paypal as a gateway for Visa and MasterCard billing in Canadian dollars. Paypal Express checkout works fine, but V and MC transactions get sent to Paypal as unconverted US dollars, that is, a transaction that should be $40 CDN goes to Paypal as $40 US. Problem seems to be somewhere in AC. Anyone know how to fix this? Using AC 7.0.5

Not sure what the PayPal system is like for AC 7.0.5 since Im on gold R9, but in the admin can you go to Admin -> Configure -> Currencies (if its there, otherwise you might need to root around the admin to find the page where the currency info is) and find out what the base (default) currency for your store is.

Looked at that. Base currency is definitely set to Canadian dollars. Problem seems to be deeper down.

You might try enabling debug logging and look at the transaction send and receive data. It might help to troubleshoot the issue.

Looks like it may not be possible to use Paypal as a gateway for credit cards unless you're dealing in US dollars. Found this on AC web site - last line says "all amounts will be in USD":
PayPal PayFlow Pro Processing Features

AbleCommerce supports all the standard features of the payment gateway. In addition, there are additional services such as recurring billing and fraud protection which can be added to your account. For more information on the services and features available, visit PayPal PayFlow Pro newwindow.gif

Authorize - where the cardholder's funds are verified as available and set aside for the pending transaction.

Authorize Capture - where the cardholder's funds are verified and immediately transferred to the merchant.

Capture - a full or partial transfer of funds from the cardholder's pending authorization to the merchant.

Void Authorization - when the pending authorization of funds is canceled. This does not refund a payment.

Refund - when funds have been transferred to the merchant, and a full or partial refund is returned to the cardholder.

Partial Refund - where multiple refunds to the customer are possible.

Recurring Billing - where the recurring billing feature within your gateway is initiated by AbleCommerce. PayFlo Pro maintains the billing and notifications after the initial order is placed.

At this time, multi-currency is not a supported feature of AbleCommerce's PayFlow Pro integration. All amounts will be in USD.

I didn't realize you were using Paypal's PayFlow Pro. That is a different integration from PayPal. When you said that Express is working, I assumed you were trying to use PayPal's Websites Payment Pro which is part of the Paypal integration that works with Visa/MC. So confusing...

So am I right in assuming that AC's interface with PayFlow only works in US dollars? Any chance that can be re-visited and changed?

We stopped developing for version 7.0.x over 3 years ago. Everything we do now will be for AbleCommerce Gold, and feature requests need to go through our feedback system so they can all be voted on. There are so many requests that come in, and we work on the ones with the most votes. If you don't plan on moving to Gold soon, then you might want to purchase the source code. That way, you'll be able to change the integration and make it work with CAD.

I presume from your answer that the problem would persist even if we upgraded to Gold. What's the approximate cost for source code?

Yes, that's correct. We haven't upgraded PP Payflow Pro since version 7. We will be focusing on upgrading our integrations in the next upcoming versions. I just can't make any guarantee that it will be done soon. Please contact sales to find out about pricing for the source code. I think we have been offering discounts on the older versions. I've now discovered that plain bread Paypal transactions are being treated as in US dollars when I capture them in Able. Is this the same problem ie - AC 7.0.5 tells Paypal that all transactions are US just as it does in PayPal PayFlow?
