Shipping with Australia Post

We do a lot of shipping with Australia Post. They have an api which we can use no problem however i cant find any source code for making a new shipping module or how to get it recognised.
Do you use a plugin like system which will automatically find new shipping modules that are placed in the bin directory? If so i can just decompile the DHL one and use that as a base. If you have source code with comments in it that would be appreciated.
This is one of the major points which we need to address before we purchase and go live with AbleCommerce (something we're keen to do ASAP.)
