Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
I'm trying to use Dataport for the first time and it isn't working. I'm trying to upload categories via CSV (Import New and Update Existing). I'm running this on my local development machine against a DEMO version of AC7.0.2.
Attached is the first error dialog. It also gives an error message about no response from server. After doing that 2 or three times in a row, I get the summary which states:

Re: Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
You must be using DataPort version 7.0.2.1 and all the reported version information seems to be correct. However the reported error is quite strange...
Now the only possibility I can guess that something is wrong with the categories CSV format... Can you please share one or two records of your categories csv file?
Another thing: can you export your existing categories data in csv format without any problems?

Re: Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
Attached is the csv file (I changed extension to TXT so it would upload) I'm trying to use. It was given to me by my client and may have been generated last year using an earlier version of the Dataport. But when I try to download categories as CSV, I get the following error:
There is an error in XML document (2, 2).

at CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api.EncodeHelper.Deserialize(String Xml, Type ThisType, Boolean defaultNull)
at CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api.EncodeHelper.Deserialize(String Xml, Type ThisType)
at e.e()
One other note -- the csv file has image asset references but those images do not exist on this computer yet.

Re: Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
I was able to successfully import your provided data on my local install for 7.0.2 store and also manually reviewed your provided data and seems to very much OK.
Can you please re-start your web server or better your PC and try again?

Re: Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
I restarted my computer and it gave the same error. I tried it with just the extract file I sent you, not the original file that had the problems. My current AC7 database has the original demo categories and about a dozen test ones I added.
Here's some more info about my configuration:
Dataport installed on C: drive.
IIS on C: Drive
website in virtual directory on D: drive.
uploaded file resides on D: drive but is not in web site folders
Any ideas, suggestions?

Re: Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
Still unable to figure out the problem you are facing...
Lets confirm this check list:
1. You are using DataPort 7.0.2.1 and uploaded the correct api dll files to your store bin directory.
2. You can successfully connect the DataPort to the store without any errors or warning messages.
3. You can download other store data like products or users in csv or xml format.
4. You have problems while downloading categories and also when uploading categories.
Can you please play a little more with DataPort like downloading users or products data and let see if it reveals any other hints. Also if there are any entries in server log then please quote those as well.

Yes and YesNaveed wrote:1. You are using DataPort 7.0.2.1 and uploaded the correct api dll files to your store bin directory.

No.Naveed wrote: 3. You can download other store data like products or users in csv or xml format.
a) Under Customized Download, as soon as I click on the Selected Categories, Selected Products, Selected Users, or Selected Orders radio button, I get the same authentication failed error message about a null password. If I then proceed with the XML download, I get the same popup error. Closing the error dialogs shows the download page in action but i'm sure that's just a started animation, not real progress occurring. For my local store, there are only the original users plus one. It should be less than a minute to generate.
b) If I try to download all users via XML, I get the same error dialog about null password.
Yes. Also problems uploading / downloading users and probably the other entities.Naveed wrote: 4. You have problems while downloading categories and also when uploading categories.
c) I also tried to upload the attached user CSV and got the same error.Naveed wrote: Can you please play a little more with DataPort like downloading users or products data and let see if it reveals any other hints. Also if there are any entries in server log then please quote those as well.
d) I didn't see anything in the event logs.
e) When I copied in the new DLLS, I did the following:
- rename old bins as .dll_OLD
- copy in new dlls
- got an error when running the store website
- deleted .dll_OLD files
- Rebuilt web application? [don't know if I did not not but I have rebuilt it for other reasons since then]
- web site working normally
- try out dataport and get errors.
I'm going to try to create a new super user and see if that makes a difference. I can also try to uninstall / reinstall the dataport.

Re: Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
Tried both; no luck.ZLA wrote:I'm going to try to create a new super user and see if that makes a difference. I can also try to uninstall / reinstall the dataport.
I ran the web site from Visual Studio and set a break point in the ashx page but when I ran the Data Port, it did not make use of the VS web server and step into the breakpoint. But let me know if that's a good idea and I just did something wrong with it.

Re: Dataport 7.0.2 - Authentication Error! - Password is null
PROGRESS!!!
This time, when I logged in to Dataport, I clicked Save Password. I don't usually have applications remember my password for me. And no more errors! Apparently, the password doesn't get stored properly if you don't select that option. Hopefully, you'll be able to track the bug down now.

ZLA
