5.5 to 7.2 import error

I have a client that used html in the 5.5 custom fields that don't import properly into AC 7.02 using the dataport. Below is what the XML export has (a one product example).

This imports into a 7.02 product template as

Cloud Fleece Bed Jacket - Lilac Color Option: <P align = center.

Everything from the = on gets dropped in the import. This format is the same for all the 5.5 custom fields. My client used the 5.5 custom fields to present additional images on her site because the 'more images' was not available at the time. She now wants to import the fields as they stand then go back later and implement the 7.0 more images.

Any idea why it is dropping the majority of the html and is there anything we can do about it?
