Import Products creates duplicate categories

Post by dooleymort » Thu Jun 11, 2009 10:21 am

I am having a similar problem as an earlier post: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=10972
I am using DataPort with:
VERSION: 7.0.2
BUILD: 11659
CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api: 7.0.2.1
CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Csv: 7.0.34.0

My store has parent and sub categories, and no further sub categories within the first sub categories.

I have some sub categories with the same name as a parent category.

Ex:
Parent Category=Software Child Category=Anit-Virus
Parent Category=Biometrics Child Category=Software

When I import products with my csv file, I have the Categories field populated with the category parent name and child name like this: "Software: Anit-Virus" and "Biometrics: Software".

After import, the Child Categories that are supposed to be in the "Software" Parent Category are now moved into the existing Child Category of "Software" and the products that were supposed to be there are missing. I did not get any errors during import.

This is one of the known issues for DataPort for 7.2. And is fixed for next release of DataPort.
Here is the bug report for the issue:
http://bugs.ablecommerce.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8098

However the fix will be available for the next release of DataPort (i.e DataPort vs. 7.0.3.1)

A simple workaround was suggest by Mazhar at:
viewtopic.php?f=61&t=10972
One quick workaround could be to use different names for these categories. For example just rename your child category with name "Software" to "Softwares". And once you have imported your data, you can rename the category back to original name.

OK. Thank you.
Is there a projected release date for the next version of DataPort?
