Edit XML

I'm trying to add product varaints for over 300 products. I thought about trying to use the XML upload to perhaps make it easier to add the data, instead of doing it product by product in the store backend. However, I can't find any instruction on how to do it, or any suggested programs to work with the XML, or anything at all. Can anyone give me a leg up here?

The latest version of the dataport can do variants from a .csv file. You can set up one product with variants in the site, then download the variants so you can see the structure of the file.
