Problem Importing 7.03 store download to 7.04 store

I exported a 7.03 store and imported it to a new 7.04 store and received many errors during the import.

I have attached the error log. Could you please look at it and tell me what went wrong?

Also, after this import, I tried to move some of the imported categories and received error messages. I am not sure if this is due to any of the errors I received. The event log shows the following.

There is a move category bug - maybe that is what is happening to you.

However, I still have the problem with the import that I need somebody from Able Commerce to look at.

Hello Mary,

This tool isn't for data migration between 7.0.x versions. There are changes between the database in each version, that needs to be handled via the upgrade scripts.

I have used the tool many times for data migration; mostly from 5.5 to 7.0.x.

What I am doing is installing a test 7.04 store, exporting 7.0.3 data from the production store them importing it into the 7.0.4 test store. I can't upgrade the 7.03 store because we are going to be doing a redesign in 7.04 and reworking the category structure.

From past experience the export/import process should work.

The 7.0.4 Dataprot is supposed to be a 'universal' version and support prior versions as long as the client files are the correct version.

Hello Mary,

Universal means it can connect to any 7.0.x version, it doesn't mean it can sort out database and data design changes from version to version during upload and download of stores.

I have used this many times for this very purpose from release 7.0.0 through 7.0.4. I have even used it to import foreign data using XML files we have created with scripts. If you search the dataport forums, you'll see that a lot of people use it for this purpose and that it works.

All I need is for somebody to look at the attached error log and the XML file I emailed to Naveed and tell me where the problem might be.

I've confirmed with development:

Trying to use dataport to go from version to version would not be nearly as accurate or complete as an upgrade. There would surely be data loss and we didn't code (the dataport) with that intent.

So I guess I'm going to have to change my tactics and upgrade the 7.03 production store in place first (and suffer the downtime) then export the data and import it into the test site. Don't know why it has worked in the past but such is life.

I hope this doesn't affect the export/import of 5.5 stores because the Dataport is the only way I can move their data and I still have several 5.5 stores to convert.
