Hello Everyone,

The AbleCommerce Dataport utility is a very powerful tool used to move or upload large amounts of data into an AbleCommerce 7 store. AbleCommerce provides this utility for free to our customers, as such, support will be provided on a limited bases through this forum only.

With the DataPort, you can:

• Download your entire store as an XML package.
• Upload your entire store as an XML package.
• Download Products, Categories, Users and Order in CSV or XML format.
• Upload Products, Categories, Users and Orders in CSV or XML format.
• Create templates to map CSV data from other sources to the AbleCommerce fields and save the template for later.
• Upload AbleCommerce 5.5 XML data to AbleCommerce 7

UNIVERSAL UTILITY

Unlike prior releases of DataPort, the newest version of the desktop application is not specific to AbleCommerce version. This means it can connect to any store running any version of AbleCommerce 7.x. The only requirement is that each store you connect to must have the most recent client API installed. The client API remains version specific.

This will be a benefit to merchants or development partners who must connect to a number of different stores. Prior to the universal release, it was necessary to have an installation of DataPort for each version of store you wanted to connect to.

The DataPort desktop application can connect to any version of AbleCommerce. However, the AbleCommerce website must have the latest client API installed. Installation of the Client API is simple and only involves the update of two files. To find the version of your AbleCommerce store, check the Help > About page from your merchant menu.

The universal dataport is version independent in the sense that it will work with any version of AbleCommerce, but that doesn't mean the data is portable between different versions. So exporting and importing to a different version is not reliable or supported.

If you need to upgrade your installation, please visit help.ablecommerce.com for more information and instructions. Keep in mind that part of our upgrade process is not just new code, it's also data upgrades. We've made many data upgrades throughout the product. With each new release there is an upgrade script that performs the necessary manipulations to bring data from the old version in-line with the new code and structures.
