Import product catalog from BVC 5

Post by steveb51977 » Tue Jun 22, 2010 2:18 pm

We are currently using BV Software (BVC 5.7) and have been very frustrated with all of the problems they have been having over the past few months with bugs and problems. Just wondering if anyone using Able commerce has been succesful in importing the categories/products from a bvc store (which exports in tab delimited file) into Able using the DataPort.

Any advice or steps you used would be helpful

Thanks

I have attached a single product that includes the column headers which is a tab-delimited file.

Thanks

Hello Steve,

It all seems to be data that could be imported, but I don't see the category information in the data. I'm not sure how this data was exported, but via the db you could get this data with the category/sub-category data to export.

Hello Steve,

The category data would need to be imported first, then you'd need to export the products as csv with a join to bring in the category name(s), so it could be attached to the already imported categories during the dataport upload.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick feedback on how to accomplish this. We will start testing this on a dev machine and let you know if we have any more problems or issues.

Thanks again

It would be great if a BV Commerce import function was created for the dataport tool. This would definitely increase your customer base. I am so frustrated with problems in their software. I have tried importing several times with bad results using dataport into Able. The main problem is our customer has 1000's products and old categories that are flagged hidden (not used), however they show up in the store after an import. If we could get a clean import, identical to how the categories/products show up in bv commerce, we would switch to able commerce immediately.

Thanks
