Image Upload and Update Product

we are new into ablecommerce. trying to use new dataport and I got it installed. Now since we have new products with pictures , how can we upload these pictures? do we need to resize them?
Also on excel file do we need to update picture name and then use data import?

The standard way is to specify product images using product administration pages. If you use the product administration web interface then images can be auto resized and thumbnail and icon images can be auto generated. However if you want to bulk upload and update product images then you have to upload all the product images to "~\Assets\ProductImages" folder after manual resizing (including thumbnail and icons). Here are the naming conventions (not necessary to be followed, just to make things simpler):

Standard Image: simple name, example: "printer.jpg"
Icon Image: image name with a post fix of "_i", example: "printer_i.jpg"
Thumbnail Image: image name with a post fix of "_t", example: "printer_t.jpg"

Once you uploaded images to correct location, then you can use Excel to update the image names and upload(import) the product data.
