I've noticed that products can be added to various categories but deleting it from the category does nothing. I am sure this is a safety default in dataport.
However something like this: Brands:FloAire,Vent Hoods:Flashing - Roof Curbs
to something like this: Brands:JRS,Vent Hoods:Flashing - Roof Curbs

will not remove it from Brands:FloAire it will just add to Brand:JRS on the .csv upload

is there a work around for this?

Sorry but this is the current behavior, it will not remove from existing category but will add to new one.

Is there any plan to add this option soon? I am re doing the entire website categories per the customer's/owner request. I have had to add all products to a junk category, then manually delete all the categories to remove products from the incorrect categories. Then upload the file with the correct categories again. This involved 350 plus categories. Very tedious to delete all by hand.
I see this happening again sometime and would like to be able to remove product from a category as well as add. Maybe if I could list multiple categories without the names being messed up then you could have an item only be in categories listed and removed from those not listed anymore.

I've found using the UPDATE mode in dataport seems to move products to a new category, provided that you have removed the reference to the old category from this field.
