Quickbooks export and AbleCommerce DataPort tool

Post by meer2005 » Fri Oct 31, 2008 1:40 pm

What is the point of the xml export of orders with the dataport tool? I know the issue of AbleCommerce 7 and Quickbooks integration has been discussed in the past, but what was the final verdict on that?

I know that when AC 7 was announced and in beta form it clearly said on the AC site that AC 7 would have quickbooks integration. I later read a post that seemed like AC was backing off from that claim.

So again, why is there an xml export of the orders with the current dataport tool? Can the xml be imported by newer versions of quickbooks?

I ams also trying to figure this out. I think I am going to use shipper with AC7 to process everyting, but I would like to download everything to quickbooks. I only need to download my orders about ones a week to keep my accoutning up to date. I am thinking that a pluging for quickbooks may be more trouble and mone than it is worth for me.

The biggest factor is simply your order volume. If you're only dealing with 5-10 orders a day and you already have bookkeeping staff, then manual data entry is probably the better way to go. You'll still contend with occasional data entry errors, but that's minor in the grand scheme of things.

The biggest advantage comes when, like me, you're stuck with doing your own bookkeeping and have a significant volume. All that data entry time adds up quickly week after week after week.

How about using the quickbooks plugin in conjunction with shipper 3 - Is any one doing this? Are there any conflicts, or anything to keep in mind?

Re: Quickbooks export and AbleCommerce DataPort tool

So I purchased this plugin and it works great. However I have a question. It imported all the items as inventory items, and I currently don't track any of these items in Quickbooks. So now I have a bunch of negative inventory items. I am starting to realize that the inventory tracking feature is probably not well suited for my business in general. So I was wondering, can I turn off the inventory feature in Quickbooks and maintain my records, or do I need to do something fancy to fix my records?

Thanks,

Great to hear you are happy with the module.

You can easily turn off inventory in Quickbooks. Just go to edit-preferences and you will find the inventory options. The quickbooks help option can explain what changes when inventory is turned on or off.

I noticed that I have something set up not quite right. Everything imports to quickbooks great, but for some reason quickbooks is adding sales tax to everything even if it is an out of state order that is not taxed by AC. An thought?

Glad it's working well for you.

Go into Edit/Preferences and select the Sales Tax section. You've got a taxable sales tax code set up as the default. I think it's phrased like "What is the most common tax code..." in the QB screen. Change it to a non-taxable code.
