Dataport for 7.0.2

Post by calvis » Thu Feb 19, 2009 2:04 pm

Hi Naveed,

Thanks for setting up this forum. I know that you have worked hard on the Dataport program and you are pretty proud of it. How are things proceeding with having the Dataport work with 7.0.2? I know most programmers don't like to announce dates and so, but it would nice to hear some details on how things are progressing. I know others would be interested in it as well.

Yes, seconds on the good work.
I've got a site or two I would like to upgrade to 7.0.02, but need the dataport, so any info you're allowed to give would be good.

Sure would be nice if the Data Port was part of the AC 7 product and not something that trailed the release.

Okay, I will be the first to post a problem. We have successfully installed DataPort, and can connect, but we are getting a version mismatch:

Warning: Version mismatch, You are running DataPort utility 7.0.34.0 for AbleCommerce 7.0 Store and we have detected an older version of CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api.dll in the AbleCommerce \bin\ folder. Please update the DLL to match the version of the DataPort utility.
Please make sure that you are using the latest version of DataPort and the DataPort API. It is strongly recommended to update your store and get the compatible version of DataPort application.

We went so far as to delete the existing CommerceBuilder files and replace with those in the .zip package.

Yes, you now only need to upload/replace the "CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api.dll" file (provided with DataPort 7.0.34) to your server. Please read the instructions in ReadMe file provided with the DataPort.

I did replace the dlls with those from the download, but still get this response. I tried replacing them again in a different manner, and then get a 500 server error when trying to connect, and the website will not function. Putting the previous dlls in place restores my site.

I have been getting the version mismatch on one site and finally figured out the problem today. The dlls weren't copying over but looked like they had. I had moved the site to a Hyper-V server running Windows 2008 so I was able to log in to rdp and tried to delete the only ones. They wouldn't delete until I set the permissions for everyone to modify. I've had that problem with other dlls on the server at work- I've had to change permissions on them to delete them. I don't know if it is something with Windows 2008 or if the dlls don't get copied over with the right permissions to start with.

I am assuming that this morning we managed to get them to properly delete, because when we copied the dlls from the zip folder we took the site down and DataPort returned a 500 error. As soon as we deleted those dlls and replaced with the previous versions the site came back online.

Hell Rick Morris,

Please copy paste the version info regarding the latest files in your store Bin directory. You posted the issue earlier in main old DataPort thread. Please make sure you are copying the correct file.

The only file you need to replace is CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api.dll. Correct version for DataPort 7.0.34 is also "7.0.34". After replacing the file you can confirm the version from "Admin -> Help -> About AbleCommerce" page.

Also if you encountering the version mismatch warning message, then please copy paste the error message as well..

Just wanted to chime in and say that I too am eagerly awaiting the DataPort for 7.0.2. I started a new site on 7.0.2 and probably would have started it on an older version if I had know DataPort didn't work with 7.0.2. My Newbie mistake... Oh well Able still Rocks! I love this store!

Please let us know as soon as DataPort works with 7.0.2, until then, I better start entering all these products.

Are there any thoughts on the file list and why we cannot get the DataPort to function for us?

You still have old Api file in your store Bin directory.
CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api: 1.0.0.21
It should be:
CommerceBuilder.DataClient.Api: 7.0.34.0
I am not sure why your store stops working with new file. Perhaps it because your ftp application creates a duplicate file. As we discussed earlier there should be a single copy of the specified dll. Please upload the latest file and make sure that no duplicate file exists.

Or it is better to remove the old file first. then upload the new file.

We do not use FTP to transfer the file. We have our own server, so we downloaded the zip package to the server and literally delete the old file and then copy the new version into the Bin folder. That is why we are confused about it not working.

Are all of the other files correct? If it is only the one file that is causing problems, then we need to figure out why.

Our problem appears to (finally) be resolved. I checked the permissions of the working file against that of the new file and they differed. Correcting the permissions appears to have fixed the problem- the site appears to be working, and we can connect to DataPort.

Great Rick, I am glad to hear that it is resolved. Naveed, can we focus on the original question at the start of the thread? Even a broad answer would be nice.

Our QA team is not getting enough time to have a proper testing for new versions of DataPort for 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 stores. This is the only reason for the delay....

I hope they will soon get some time to test it.

I just suggested to a client that he test the dataport .34 on a 7.0.2 site since the real site was just starting in development and it would be a whole lot better to start with the latest build. I figured if it didn't work, he hadn't lost because he wasn't working with an existing site. It did get stuck on audit events but he adjusted some things and ran the import again and it worked. So he's set to go now.

It looks like I am loosing a customer because we are unable to import products into the latest version of Ablecommerce. The customer does not what to consider coming in at a backlevel version. Presently the store is at Storefront, which has been taken over by Dydacomp. They are in the middle of a datacenter consolidation. I got a vague email saying two of my three stores would be moved soon. No date so I assume it will be in a few weeks. Then at 3:30pm central on Friday afternoon a few days later, I got an email containing the links and login information for the new control panel. The note also inclued a link to the new store, which did not work. It also had a message telling me that the stores would be moved over the weekend. I saw the message at 4:14 pm central and immediately called Dydacomp/Storefront to let them know about the link not working. I got voice mail saying they were closed for the weekend. That was friday Feb 20th, still have not been able to get in contact with anyone in Tech Support or Sales. Voice mailbox is full... How is that for great project planning? Storefront gives me less than a day to create the email accounts and test the site to discover problems. Then they are not there to offer support. This is a perfect example of why I am here at AbleCommerce. The software seems much more stable, has a more professional looking Admin/Merchant Tools, has many more features included like Shipping Rate Estimator and Tech Support has been very good. Stay away from Storefront shopping cart.

Hello Rich,

I have written a converter that takes the data from StoreFront into AC7. It uses the current DataPort tool which means the data must temporarily be pushed into a 7.0.0 store, but then the database can be attached to a 7.0.2 store and updated using the 7.0.2 updater. That last steps should only take a few seconds.

Hi Andy,
I should have known that you would have something to bridge the gap. I have enjoyed working with a number of your other applications like Shipper, Sign-in control, Bread Crumbs, Select Carrier, and Shipping Cost Estimator. It is nice to see most of those features included in AbleCommerce. How can I get more information about your converter? I did not see anything on your website. The only thing that concerns me is creating the 7.0.0 database... not sure how that can be done.

Thanks,
Rich

I have not turned it into a product for sale. Right now it is a service that I provide (i.e. you give me the StoreFront database and I return the AbleCommerce database). If you are still interested, please send me an email or PM.
