Using Gallery Image Moniker Field

Post by sciencesight » Wed Oct 15, 2014 2:40 pm

Can someone please tell me what the Moniker field is used for in gallery images? Does it have SEO purpose or is it for some internal use?

I found the original issue where this feature was added. Here is the information that one of the developers provided to describe the purpose of this field -
I have come to the conclusion that there is no need for any additional images fields in product table. We can never cater all the different real world usage scenarios this way. There is a simpler and better solution. All we need to do is that we add an additional field to the ac_ProductImages table so that we can simply identify what the additional image represents.

I propose that we add a new field named 'moniker' or 'tag' or 'label' to ac_ProductImages. This way when merchants add additional images they can tag the image with what it represents. For example they can tag a large image to 'LargeImage', an alternate image to "BackView" another image to "SideView" and so on.

This will also make very simple for them to display a particular product image by easily identifying it from its moniker.
Thank you for choosing AbleCommerce!

Thank you. The examples provided are just what I needed. Moniker is for whatever internal use one may require to manage images.
