Many of our software access products are added using kits with a parent subscription product (i.e. to use any software you need a subscription, a subscription comes with 3 free software tools).
This model has worked well for us for many years, but we are in a situation where we want to sell a software product as a bundle (e.g. Microsoft bundle gets you Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
On the kit page for the product we want to be the parent of the bundle we see the message "Kit members may not have kitting options set." because it is still part of the bundle with subscription.
Is there a way to get a kit member to have sub-comonents as well?
We are running AbleCommerce GoldR8 (build 7345)

Re: Kitting options for Kit members
Hello,
I'm having a little trouble trying to understand your goals. Can you provide a screenshot of the Kitting page and anything else that might be helpful to see how you want the product to be setup.
If you are asking about products that have Kits within Kits, then then answer is no. You can, however, use options with Kitted member products.
Thanks,
Katie

Re: Kitting options for Kit members
Hi Katie,
For the goals succinctly I want to have a "Subscription" product that can be added to the cart, where one of its kit options is "ToolA" where "ToolA" is a bundle of 3 products:
Subscription
-> ToolA
--> ToolA1
--> ToolA2
--> ToolA3
-> ToolB
-> ToolC
The screenshots show:
- ParentProduct.png - a screenshot of the Subscription that contains a bundle with "CAD: ANSYS Multiphsyics"
- KiMember.png - a screenshot of the "CAD: ANSYS Multiphysics" product Kit page where I cannot add kits to it because it is a member of kits
- OptionFail.png - On the parent product we already have kit member options, I thought you could have also meant that "CAD: ANSYS Multiphysics" could have options to include other products, but it seems not
Can you suggest how I can accomplish the goals?
Thanks,
Owain

Re: Kitting options for Kit members
Subscription >> This is the master kit parent product
-> ToolA >> This can either be the name of the component where products ToolA1, A2, and A3 are child products of the kit, OR, ToolA is a product with options for ToolA1, A2, and A3. However, ToolA cannot be it's own master kit parent product.
--> ToolA1 >> Products associated to the component named 'ToolA' OR options of 'ToolA'.
--> ToolA2 >> Products associated to the component named 'ToolA' OR options of 'ToolA'.
--> ToolA3 >> Products associated to the component named 'ToolA' OR options of 'ToolA'.
-> ToolB >> Child Product
-> ToolC >> Child Product
The pop-up warning that you see is simply telling you that you are trying to change the options for a product this is already part of a kit. It won't prevent you from adding an option, but be aware that you may need to edit the products that it is associated to and make sure the optioned product is still configured how you want in the master kit product.
I don't know if this helps, but I'm hoping this gives you a few ideas on how to move forward.
Thanks,
Katie

Re: Kitting options for Kit members
Hi Katie,
I can make a component called "Tool bundle" that has the 3 products, but I do not know how to make it optional. Maybe the attached screenshot (ProductAddToCart.png) helps.
It shows the structure of the product as it exists where the "1 of 3 CAD Bundle" are selectors where a customer can choose the software to include with their purchase.
It also shows the "ANSYS Bundle" where I have 3 tools in it. I would like this "ANSYS Bundle" to be one of the choices in the dropdown or make it optional (i.e. all 3 included or non included).
Is there a way you can suggest to accomplish this?
Thanks,
Owain

Hi,
If you change the INPUT TYPE for the component "Tool Bundle", and make it Check Box, then it is essentially optional. You can make each of the 3 products selected by default, or not. Does that work?
Thanks,
Katie
