Is it possible to..
Can I install gold and make the database changes but still access the database with 7.0.7 without causing issues? I would like to play around with gold while keeping 7.0.7 as the live store. I do not have a offline setup and would rather use a populated database for testing anyways.

Howdy Tim,
The database has changed so that wouldn't be possible. You can download a free copy of Visual Web Developer express and run it local.

Can you please clarify for me? Because this thread has me spooked.
If we set up Gold as a separate new store to do all the fine tuning, will we then be able to import the old database info into the new one when we are ready?
I'm dreading losing all our customers data and order info.

Hello Maureen,
Gold will convert a 7.0.7 database just fine, you will not lose any of your data. Since the store templates are all new, you'll need to migrate your look and feel over to the new W3C complaint store templates.

Was the solution to load a local store?
The upgrade instructions have me a little confused. Our 7.07 store is located at the root of our website. Should I, or can I load Gold in a sub-directory along side of 7.07 ie. <root>/store/<new gold install> to modify themes, customizations, etc. and then upgrade the 7.07 database, then remove the 7.07 directories? Will running the Gold install within a sub-directory affect my 7.07 Live store?
I apologize if the questions have obvious answers, but can't seem to locate step by step upgrade instructions.
Thank you - Kevin
