Also, will there be a mobile version of the admin side?
Thanks,

Hello All,

There are not any plans to do a mobile version of the admin side at this time. Neal I don't really understand your question.

1st feature line at http://www.ablecommerce.com/Upgrade-to- ... 05C50.aspx

Please explain the mobile feature of GOLD. Does a visitor see a completely different theme that suits a phone interface? This is the first I've heard of mobile support and I'm curious exactly what is your mobile support in detail please.

Howdy Neal,

There is a completely separate theme (css, mobile master page) for the mobile store, along with a set of 'mobile controls' that are far simpler than the ones for the main store. From the mobile store you can still click through to the main store via a link.

Here's a bit of insight from the team leader on the mobile store:
Having reviewed many mobile stores like amazon and others, it is clear the mobile stores are less and less concerned about features. All the effort seems to be on simplifying and minimizing the feature set. This is a change of mindset for the designers and the developers who are used to standard websites.

The feature simplification, improved usability, better work flow, device compatibility, performance and standards compliance are the focus areas for this and future versions of the mobile store. As for features version 1.0 will have all the features you can find on any well known mobile store.
Thanks for your support

So do you use some 3-part software to do the mobile device analyse or how does it work?
Sincerely,

I guess it's not yet in GOLD even though you have it listed in the link provided? Your e-mail that I just got states:
There's more coming...Amazon payments and Mobile Shopping are two new features that we are working on right now.
Also in your e-mail no one is going to know what WAP is - for those wondering it's Web Application Projects as opposed to the "Web Site Project" model in Visual Studio.

We settled on using 51degrees for mobile detection: http://51degrees.codeplex.com/

Visitors will see a completely different version of the website... with CSS and content specific to smaller screens. The feature set is reduced from the full site but we have retained the basic functions of browse, search, and buy.
Cheers,
Logan

We are switching over to using the 51Degrees stuff for our mobile detection and it seems to work well. It seems like the mobile world is changing every day so we are trying to keep up with the technology, but it's a moving target so using a third party library like this where they are experts gives us a better way of doing things- like using jQuery instead of writing all the javascript ourselves.
