We have several AbleCommerce 5.5 stores, and are now upgrading one of these stores to AbleCommerce Gold. Eventually we will probably upgrade the other stores, but that is on the distant horizon. With our old stores, we used a single database instance to support all of the stores. Can we do this with AbleCommerce Gold?
I saw the following links. The first didn't really answer the above. And the second indicates a need for the Enterprise solution. We plan to go with Gold, not Enterprise.

This question came up while I was planning our installation, since we need to assign a Database name in SQL 2008. Can we use a single database to support multiple store instances, or will we need to create separate database instances for each store? Thanks.
Can multiple AbleCommerce Gold stores use a single database?
Re: Can multiple AbleCommerce Gold stores use a single database?
Hello Ken,
With AC7 and AC Gold, there is going to be one database per installation/store. After version 5, we changed our licensing model. We used to sell a product with 5 stores and 1 server license, and it sold for about $3k. With version 7, we moved to a simpler licensing model that was based on the domain name only. We dropped the price and sold individual store licenses instead of "store packs" and "server keys". So with AC Gold , you'll need to have an installation for each store, and each will need to have it's own database instance, which is more secure anyway.
Welcome to the forums Ken, and thanks for your question.

Re: Can multiple AbleCommerce Gold stores use a single database?
Katie- just to make sure I understand this. We have one site that has two domain names applied to the same store database and we did some custom programming to do that. If this site upgrades to Gold, there would be one domain name per database?
I'm asking because we have another client who will be wanting to upgrade to Gold after the first of the year, but they also want a second domain name applied to their Able 7.0.7 store now so they can have the appearance of two stores, with some of the same products, but one admin and database for both domain names.

Re: Can multiple AbleCommerce Gold stores use a single database?
Judy, AC Gold still supports multiple domain names for a single installation. What Katie was getting at is that we no longer support different store data sets in the same database - or multiple store ids as it would have been in past versions.
Cheers,
