Help installing AC Gold Demo next to Dev License AC7?
I've been hitting my head against this for about 2.5 hours now. I'm just so lost. The AC7 install seemed to go much more smoothly and getting AC GOLD installed just isn't working, and I don't have a clue why. Please help!!
I have a virtual PC running a development licensed version of AC 7 under the default web site.
I'm trying to install the demo version of AC Gold and I cannot get the installer to run at all.
I don't understand enough of how IIS works to troubleshoot this. I had my server tech help and all the basic IIS setups looked fine to him, so he couldn't help any further.
Any ideas or guidance would just be hugely appreciated!
Thanks!
Elizabeth

Hello Elizabeth,
First of all confirm you can access a plain old html page in the root of the the newtongold website as the error message. The error message makes it sound like the website isn't configured quite right yet.

Re: Help installing AC Gold Demo next to Dev License AC7?
I just tried putting a text file in the directory and accessing it in the browser using :
http://newtongold:8080/helloworld.txt
but still got the error. I'm sure something's not setup with IIS, but I have no idea how to do it or investigate it.
The AC7 install was simpler because no other site existed and it was going into the default of everything (webroot, web site, application pools etc).
And everything looked normal to my office's general server tech, so not sure where to go next.
Thanks!

Try creating an new app pool that uses .net 4.0 and using that for the Gold site. If the Default app pool does not use 4.0, that could be the problem - Gold runs under .net 4.0.

You may need to register asp.net 4 on the host machine.

Re: Help installing AC Gold Demo next to Dev License AC7?
Hello,
I'm not quite sure that .NET v4 is the problem, because I think I'm already running the Application Pools as such, but I'm not entirely clear on how to prove it.
I've attached some screen shots, hoping this can help. Looking at this page http://blue-and-orange.net/articles/iis ... ith-iis-7/: I honestly cannot figure out where the "ISAPI and CGI Restrictions" page is. I don't see it under any obvious grouping that I can see under IIS.
I'm sorry if I'm missing something basic, I'm just not a server network person at all at this level. And yet I need to get this version installed to evaluate the newer structure of the platform.
Thank you very much!!

Re: Help installing AC Gold Demo next to Dev License AC7?
Well in desperation I wiped out everything I had tried and started all over again..
I added a new site, assigned it to the secondary Application pool, set it up to run under port 8080 for any name and specifically gave it the Administrator sign on instead of the pass-through permissions.
Maybe that last part was the key factor because now the install page appears if I go to : http://localhost:8080/install/default.aspx
I haven't run it yet, but so far the AC7 install has not been compromised at http://newton/Admin/Login.aspx
So I'm not sure what in the world I was doing wrong, but it seems to be working now.
I don't know if this is relevant either, but it seemed worth mentioned...
I went back and was re-following http://help.ablecommerce.com/installati ... _guide.htm
I didn't understand the part about Virtual Directories particularly because the steps/options didn't match up with what IIS 7 was showing me, but when I clicked link in Step 1 (Substep 4) ... "make sure to configure a web directory", the pop up has "Home > Installation - version 7 > Supplementary > Configuring a web directory" as the breadcrumb.
So perhaps this popup is an older version of IIS or should be updated for Gold somehow?
So I guess it works now. I wish I could explain why it didn't for when someone else has the same issue.. but... there you have it.
Thank you!

Now, cut yourself some slack. This stuff is hard.
And, it's different for Win7, Win8, Server 2K3, Server 2K8, 32-bit and 64-bit. Even the slightest deviation from the environment in the documentation can throw the install off. Once you get a message that isn't expected, you're stuck.
I've been doing computers and networking for over 28 years. Even I get stuck sometimes. So it's not you. It's just what you are trying to do is that complex
