Importing Customer Database To Able Gold

We are looking into upgrading to the new Able Commerce Gold and have been told by a developer that you can't import the 7.7 customer database. What about the email adress lists? If this is true what does Able expecct retailerrs to do?

You can fully upgrade from AC7.0.7 database to AC Gold. The AC7.0.7 database directly gets upgraded to AC Gold database if you provide connection to the 7.0.7 database at the install time.

Notice the 'Install Type' option. One of the choices is
'This is an existing AC7 database to be upgraded'

Thank you so much for the information. We have a current 7.06 Able website up and running for the last 3-4 years and have no idea why our developer is telling us this.I will take this information back to them and ask for an explanation.

When it comes to upgrade there could be concerns other than the database. Especially if you have done a lot of customization. All your data and the database will get upgraded to AC Gold but your front end files may need additional work after the upgrade.

Same title, but perhaps a different issue.
I have a brand-new installation of Gold VERSION: 7.0.8.5410 and I need to import a file of customers (names, email, passwords, billing and shipping addresses, etc) into AC. This file is NOT in an earlier version of AC.
The new, built-in Data Exchange seems to only allow product data to be imported.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Apologies if this is answered elsewhere.

You are correct- dataexchange doesn't do users. We are faced with that problem now with sites earlier than Able 7.0.6 wanting to upgrade and the Able Gold upgrade routine works on 7.0.6+ only. We are having to write routines to get these people to Gold. You could try installing a demo version of Able 7, using Able's dataport to import your users from a .csv file, then run the Gold upgrade on that Able 7 version of the database. We can't do that because clients want a second import of users and orders after the Able Gold site has been developed and right when they are ready to go live with it.

Is there still no way to import user data in to Gold from 7.0.7 ? Any updates on this or does anyone know a simple work around?

If you upgrade your 7.0.7 site to Gold using Able's built-in upgrade routine, all your data will be there for Gold. It is a very quick routine and we have not run into any problems. One of the questions above had to do with data that was not coming from an Able site.
