We tried to send an e-mail out to our e-mail list earlier and could not do it. On one site we had no problem sending, although it did take a little bit of time for AC to progress from the Compose screen to the Preview screen. On that list there are just over 2000 subscribers. However, on our larger list of a little more than 17000 subscribers we get an error screen about 1-2 minutes after we click Preview and Send. The configuration is correct, as it does send the test e-mail to the e-mail address in our 'test' e-mail list with only one e-mail address.

Is this a bug in Gold? How do we resolve this, as we need to have the ability to send e-mails to those on the list?

What version are you using? The preview page might be having trouble getting 17,000 records to display.

We are running Gold R6.

We will test this scenario. Usually if there are so many email addresses one should put them in an email list.
It could be that because of so many email addresses the process times out. If you intend to send emails to so many recepients on regular basis i would suggest that you don't do from inside AbleCommerce. You better use specialized email tool that can keep sending emails in the background. All you will need to do is to download the email list users as CSV file and provide that list to your email program. Many AC users are using different email marketting tools like MailChimp, campaign monitor, icontact, sendgrid, aweber and etc.

I have tested with over 25000 subscribers in the e-mail list. It has taken some time but then just worked fine for me. I am unable to reproduce the issue.

We ran into the same problem in Able 7 on a site. They just have to do the export very often then have me delete the subscribers in Able. If I remember correctly, there were other pieces of data being exported and trimming down the code to export the email address only would probably help.

When mails are getting sent at the same time the performance of the SMTP server can also result in timeout.
