Intermittent issue with default.aspx not rendering

Last Friday we brought up a Gold R7 upgrade from Able 7.0.7 The site has been running great, with one exception.

Twice now, the site suddenly stops rendering the Able webpage default.aspx. Instead it renders the OS file as seen below.

Even more bizarre, the site is still UP. I can log into admin, browse orders, view order details etc. But if I click "Store" to go to the front end, I again get the content below.

No errors in the error log. No errors in app.log. Nothing.

Never seen this behavior in a Gold site before. It's as if the handler itself has stopped working. Only fix is to bounce the application pool.

Any suggestions on where to look for a cause?

This file is required by IIS so that your website can be accessed without a file name specified.
To edit your home page, log in to the merchant administration and go to Website > Webpages.
If you are seeing this message from the browser, you either haven't completed the web based installation for the
application or something has been misconfigured.

Likely it is because of some IIS / website configuration chicanery...

Hi Joe,

You might try to apply a patch for "AC8-2254" - Store does not initialize if the database connection is lost.

I went ahead and updated the site to R8 since there were practically no customizations. So far, so good.
