Gift Certificate Bug?

Hi everyone! We had a guy place an order for 10 gift certificates and the system generated 10 certificates, but they did not all have unique serial numbers.

We created a second, identical order to see if the system would do it again. It indeed created non-unique certificates again but not necessarily in the same pattern (number and order of identical serials).

For now, we just deactivated all the duplicates and regenerated certificates. It seems to be a good work-around.

I have attached two screenshots, one of the order summary, then one of the gift certificate tab on that order.

Wow! If this is true I'd deem this a critical bug and needs to roll out in R9 ASAP before holiday season approaches. Good catch!

Did you submit this as a bug report (Feedback tab in Admin, choose Report Issue at top)?

Did you generate the gift certificates from the gift certificates tab on the view order page? What version of Gold are you using?
I tried and didn't get duplicate numbers.

I am running on R8 of GOLD. I just replicated the issue one more time to verify the exact steps we were taking. This time we created an order from the admin side. I created a new order for a customer, added 10 100.00 gift certificates and deferred payment. The certificates were not generated at this point. We then recorded a payment and navigated to the gift certificate tab to verify they all generated with some having duplicate serials (So GC's are generated upon payment capture?). I have attached another screen shot below of the order I created today to verify the bug. You can see the different pattern of duplicate serials this time around.

I just reported it as a bug, thanks for the reminder.

Thanks. I will test tomorrow morning using those steps. I was validating mine one at a time from the gift certificates tab.

We've fixed this for next version (R9) which should be available tomorrow.
For now, we just deactivated all the duplicates and regenerated certificates. It seems to be a good work-around.
Hopefully the work-around above will be acceptable until you can upgrade.
