What is the best way to get from 7.0.3 to current Gold version?

Your question is a little vague so I'm not sure what information you are looking for.

Upgrading the database is easy, however, you will need to select a theme in Gold and put in any custom styling. If your site is not very custom, then it will be easy to add your logo and be ready to go. However, if your store is highly customized, then you will want to create a development site and re-skin the store. This usually just involves CSS changes, or maybe some customization to the store header and footer. Again, it all depends on how customized your existing store is.

I was just seeking input from anyone who has upgraded from 7.0.3 or AC staff for the smoothest possible transition. From what I read before the post, I wasn't exactly sure if an incremental upgrade would be required or not -- like 7.0.7 -- and then to Gold, etc... Also, anyone who as upgraded from older version 7, did you install over your current installation, start with a completely new installation, use the Data Port tool, incremental upgrade and then Gold, another method? I'd hate to have to redo all of our customizations in a brand new install, but installing over the current install just seems like it would be a mess. Any input from those of you who have upgraded would be greatly appreciated.

The link I gave you has detailed information about upgrading. Gold is a completely new version so you will not be able to copy over the current installation. What you will want to do is install Gold at a development website first. You can either work with the sample data, or take a backup of you AC 7.0.3 database and upgrade it directly. This assumes you will be installing the latest version of Gold R8 which can upgrade going as far back as 7.0.3. Then you will pick a theme and start working on your CSS (if desired). Again, a lot depends on how many customizations you have and how much you need to bring over.

Okay, well there was some confusion on the link you posted. It states "AbleCommerce Gold scripts will upgrade a 7.0.6 or 7.0.7 database," but sounds like that has changed now with Gold R8 to support versions as far back as 7.0.3.

I wonder if you're seeing a cached version of the page. Can you try to refresh (F5) and see if you see the updated content?

No it's not cached, the top of the page it says "These instructions apply to installations running AbleCommerce 7.0.3 through 7.0.7. If you are running an earlier version, then you will need to upgrade to version 7.0.3 or later before beginning.," but step two it only references 7.0.6 or 7.0.7 twice:

"If you are going to upgrade a copy of your 7.0.6 or 7.0.7 database now, then select the option during a new installation as indicated below -"


"AbleCommerce Gold scripts will upgrade a 7.0.6 or 7.0.7 database."

The errors have been fixed. Thanks for letting me know.
