Anonymous user maintenance errors

We have been having maintenance issues on our site since I believe, R8. We have upgraded twice now hoping it would fix the problems but they still exist into R10.

The anonymous user cleanup does not work properly, it never keeps up. We end up having to manually clean up the users in the db every so often. When I try to trigger the clean up manually from the maintenance admin page, it simply spins, then nothing happens. No errors in the error log either.

If there are no errors being reported, then it might be a problem with the database server being over-loaded. Try removing just 1 day by entering 8 into the field for deleting anonymous users older than (8) days. Give it some time to complete, and see if the number of users drops a bit. If not, then please give us some information about the server. Is is a shared or dedicated server? Database on a separate machine? Is the server running at capacity or is it mostly sitting idle? Memory?

Just an FYI. I checked the change logs and see that we made some improvements to maintenance in Gold R9. I've seen no reports since then.
