Hi -

We are working to upgrade from Gold R8 to Gold R10. Everything works great on our local development server, so I went to deploy to live following this process:

1) Installed base AbleCommerce on production server to ensure everything worked
2) Pointed database.config to my existing Gold R8 database; Site loaded correctly and I assume database was upgraded automatically
3) Merged my local files with live production files, except for web.config, ablecommerce.config, database.config and encryption.config
4) Everything seems to be working - themes, data, etc however I noticed I wasn't receiving shipping rates
5) Reviewed UPS settings and discovered that UserID and Access Key were empty
6) Opened PayPal settings and discovered that PayPal account and some API info was blank

I can't figure out for the life of me why this may have happened only on the production environment. Has anyone seen anything like this? Is there a way to confirm my production database was indeed updated automatically?

Hello Greg,

Did the Gold R8 install have an encryption key set? If so, then you may need to restore the encryption key to the R10 version. Let me know if this works.

For each upgrade, we have the database changes listed. You can spot check a few of them to make sure everything is in order.

Hi Katie -

It looks like we do have an encryption key set. However, when reading the content on the Encryption instructions screen, it only references if we are moving to a new location. The database is remaining on the same server - should I still have to restore it?

Re-ran the upgrade last night, restored the encryption key which fixed the PayPal issue but UPS was still missing. I went ahead and deleted UPS and set it up again which seems to have worked.

The encryption key is based on the physical web server, not the database server. So if the upgraded site is running on a different web server than the original R8 website, the encryption key must be restored.

Thanks for that info. The web server didn't change, so not sure what happened.

In that case, the only time I've seen that happen is when the encryption key file is overwritten by the upgraded install. Usually when I use a fresh install to do the upgrade instead of the upgrade files.

For some projects, it's easier to start with a full R10 and merge instead of doing two incremental upgrades using the upgrade favors of Able. If I'm not careful, I forget about the app_data folder and wind up replacing files I didn't want to.
