Anyone interested in a Quickbooks Online integration?

I've been playing with the Intuit API this weekend. It's vastly improved from a few years ago when I last reviewed it.

It looks like building an AbleCommerce Gold integration with Quickbooks Online is doable.

Does anyone have any interest in such an integration should I decide to proceed building it?

We would :)

Curious though. We have evaluation download orders mixed in with our regular orders. Will there be a way to exclude orders from the export? Or does it just import everything into QB?

There will be an option to include or exclude zero-dollar orders as part of the transfer process.

That's going to open the door for "Well we still want the customer in QB but not the invoice since it was free". I can make that an option too if it becomes necessary.

I don't think I would want that because it's not really a "customer" at that point, at least for us. But I could see how some people would offer things that are free and want log them as customers.

Anyway, if you are certain about offering the integration, we would be more than happy to announce it in our next newsletter. Get some more people on-board for you.

Thanks
Katie

So the module is coming along nicely. All of the work involving invoices, payments, sales receipts and purchase orders is tested and working well.

In the mean time, I've fleshed out the configuration pages. That's mostly done and the module can now be easily configured through standard admin pages.

This weekend I'm working on the actual transfer page. This is the page the site admin will use to perform the transfer of AbleCommerce orders into Quickbooks Online. I've tried to simplify things to make it easy for anyone to use. To that end, I've constructed an easy-to-read 'Preflight Checklist' that verifies everything needed to perform a successful transfer.

That way, a problem can be headed off before the admin ever encounters it. We'll see how this fleshes out as I get further into the page design, but for now I like it :)

How's this coming along? Any idea of what you'd charge for the mod? Would it require much in the way of installation and setup or pretty direct?
Thanks!

Hi Barb,

It's actually been done for nearly a month. It works really well. But I walked away from it for a single reason.

Currently I have not found any feature or service within Quickbooks Online to perform a backup or restore of the company data. This makes me very, very uncomfortable selling anyone a module that transfers data in bulk. Should anything go wrong, even if it's the most honest forgivable mistake in the programming, the effort to manually clean up the mess would be substantial.

So if you know of a way to back up and restore your QBO company data, I'd be thrilled to see this module go to market. But until then, I'm just not comfortable accepting that much liability.

Hi Joe,

I'd found that one backup solution that was in beta, here's another one I'd found.
