Adding a digital good where no order exists

So here is the problem I want to solve:

I have a registered customer to whom I want to provide a digital good but without having to create an order. In other words, just add it to his account.

Is there a way to do this?

The only way I can see to do this is to create a zero-cost order (using 100% coupon) and then it gets assigned at that point. But I'd like to just avoid that step, if possible.

Hi Mike,

It depends on which version you are using, but we do have a feature where digital goods can be assigned to groups. If the customer were in that group, then they would see the download from their account page.

If this is just one customer and you don't expect to do this again for other customers, then creating a 0-dollar order is the best way to accomplish this task.

I'm using the latest, Gold R12. Very nice by the way!

This is a one-off thing, so the zero cost order is the way to go. But I'm going to look in the group functionality to learn more about it.

The digital goods assigned to groups would typically be used with the subscription feature. So, you might have a subscription which activates a subscriber group. Any downloads assigned to that group would automatically be activated.
