PayPal transaction are failing after authorizations

Post by Katie » Fri Jan 13, 2017 8:20 am

Hello -

We have had reports of successful PayPal authorizations failing to capture. The error message is FAILED - Authorization Expired. There seems to be no way to capture the money. Not through AbleCommerce or your Paypal merchant account.

We just spoke with a PayPal representative and they are aware of the issue and are trying to fix it. There is a work-around, if anyone is interested. (see below) The only other option is to delete the payment from the order, and have your customer login to pay again. However, I would wait until PayPal has resolved the issue on their end.

--------------------------------
You have to call PayPal Business Support and request that Reference Transactions be enabled on your account.

Reference Transactions allow you to recharge a customer’s credit card after an initial transaction has been completed. You will not need to input your customer’s credit card information to process a sale. To process a transaction, please follow the steps below.
1. Log into your PayPal account
2. Click History near the top of the page.
3. Click Details on a transaction from the customer you wish to charge
4. To create a reference transaction, select “Create Another Transaction."
5. Enter the new transaction information and click “Review”
6. Click “Submit” to process a sale. The confirmation page will allow you to print a customer receipt.

NOTE: Only the primary account owner can perform the Reference Transaction process.

Thanks,
Katie
